Michigan Free Fishing Offered Next Weekend

Michigan: home to outstanding fishing, more than 3,000 miles of Great Lakes shoreline, 11,000 inland lakes and tens of thousands of miles of rivers and streams. There’s no shortage of recreational opportunities to explore— and what better time to do so than the 2019 Winter Free Fishing Weekend!

The event will be held Saturday and Sunday, February 16 - 17. As part of these weekends, all fishing license fees are waived for two days, with residents and out-of-state visitors allowed to enjoy fishing on all waters for all species during their respective open seasons. Please note that all other regulations still apply.

To encourage involvement in Free Fishing Weekends, organized activities are offered in communities across the state. These activities are coordinated by non-profit groups, schools, parks (local/state), businesses and others.

To view a list of events or register an event, visit michigan.gov/freefishing. The site contains information and resources to help plan and promote fishing weekend activities.

A Recreation Passport will not be required for entry into state parks and recreation areas during Free Fishing Weekend.

Free Fishing Weekends occur twice per year. The next weekend is planned for June 8 - 9.
