ENGADINE CONSOLIDATED SCHOOLS

by Superintendent Angie McArthur

—With all the recent school closings I was asked how the decision is made to cancel or delay school. These decisions are not made lightly, as we understand how disruptive a closure or delay can be for families.

I review several different weather sites, discuss the matter with other superintendents, get input from individuals around the district and drive the roads as needed. As our district is 464 square miles, it can be fine in one area and terrible in another.

Ultimately, the safety of our students and staff are the determining reason for a closure.

—Mark your calendar for the 2019 Millecoquins Lake Winter Carnival Saturday, February 23. Activities begin at 8:00 a.m. with an ice fishing contest at the south end of the lake.

The day ends at the Garfield Township Hall in Engadine with a free community dinner from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., sponsored by the Graymont Rexton Project.
