Robert “Bob” Williams

Robert “Bob” Williams, the beloved patriarch of the Williams family, passed away peacefully at home in the early hours of Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the age of 82.

Bob was the first-born child to Don and Bea Williams, arriving on July 13, 1936. He grew up in Newberry and entered into the Navy after high school in 1955. He married his highschool sweetheart, Diane Lemke, in 1957 and the two had three children together. Robert served honorably in the US Navy for twenty years aboard several US Naval vessels. He retired as a Company Commander from Great Lakes Naval Academy and obtained the rank of Signalman, First Class. He was an active-duty veteran of both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Upon the conclusion of his military career, he served another twenty years working for the McMillan Township as Cemetery Supervisor and caretaker of the Community Building. He took great pride in a job well-done and applied his superior work ethic to every capacity of his various careers.

He was known for his positive and cheery outlook, his practical and humble nature, and being a most dependable man of his word. He was generous with his time, talents, and resources and was quick to offer help to anyone who needed it. He would spend his days whistling cheerfully while completing woodworking projects, carpentry and home-improvement projects, working in the garden and greenhouse, and making wine.

Robert’s legacy will live on through those who survive him including his loving wife of 62 years, Evelyn Diane; his three children, Kathern S. Spradlin (and her husband, Homer) of Shepherdsville, Kentucky; Donald R. Williams of Newberry, Michigan; and Robert D Williams of Hubbard Lake, Michigan; his six grandchildren: Susan, Timothy, Emily, Meghan, Donald, and Alexandra; and his seven great-grandchildren: Raven, George, Poppy, Nova, Luna, Hubert, and Christopher. He is also survived by his sister, Barb Keinonen of Newberry, Michigan; his sister, Donna Menominee of Tecumseh, Michigan; and his brother, Richard J. Williams of Newberry, Michigan and several nieces and nephews.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Donald G. Williams and Beatrice O. Williams; his sister, Dorothy Adkins; his granddaughter, Tina Marie Wilson; and his great-grandson Stephan S. Wilson
