County Continues Blue Cross/Blue Shield Coverage

The December 18 Luce County Commission meeting saw the approval of appointments to various boards, the approval of health insurance for Luce County employees and certificates of appreciation given to two commissioners.

There were several appointments approved, including: Francie Waybrant to DHHS board of directors; Lisa Den Boer to the Luce County Department of Veterans Affairs Committee; and Michael Aho to the Luce County Road Commission Board.

The Commission approved keeping the county’s current health insurance with Blue Cross/Blue Shield. A proposed new health insurance offered a savings of $59,000, but would not offer employees the opportunity to go to hospitals outside of an HMO in Michigan.

A pass-through grant was approved for the 2019 Survey and Remonumentation Grant. The grant, totaling $60,486 for 2019, will survey and establish 32 corners in Luce County.

A pass-through grant represents money awarded to an organization, with Luce County serving as the fiduciary to distribute the funds. Remonumentation is done to make sure the original section corners in Luce County are in their proper place.

At the end of the regular session, Commission chair Michelle Clark presented two certificates of appreciation. One was awarded to commissioner John Waltman for his service on the Luce County Board of Commissioners. The other was presented to commissioner Nancy Morrison for her 28 years of service as recorder for Probate and District Court.
