Roger D. Peake

Roger D. Peake, 86, of Hulbert died Sunday, November 11, 2018 at Golden Leaves Living Center. He was born December 24, 1931 in Newberry, son of the late Lyle and Elvira (Hart) Peake.

Following his graduation from the University of Michigan, he began his career as a schoolteacher. He then went to work for Bowerman Forest Products as an office manager. He and his wife, June, moved to Grand Rapids in 1963, where he soon began his career in real estate.

In the late 1960s the couple located in Lake Isabella. In 1974 he and three family partners opened a real estate office in Mt. Pleasant, and in 1975 that company franchised with Century 21 Real Estate.

His talent soon was recognized by the regional owners, and they hired him as executive director for the state of Michigan. Later he was chosen to serve as regional director for the Chicago area Century 21. He continued in that position for many years until his retirement, moving back to Hulbert in the 1990s.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and building bird feeders.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and later in the Army Reserves until his honorable discharge December 6, 1962. He was a member of American Legion Post #393 in Hulbert where he served as lounge manager for several years.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Nadine “June Bug” (née Bowerman) Peake; granddaughter, Crystal Peake; and siblings, Jack Peake, Clare Peake and Phyllis Sims.

Survivors include his son, Leon (Shelly) Peake of Gautier, MS; one grandson; and siblings, Gary Peake and Mildred Williams.

Per request, cremation services were accorded. A graveside service will be held in the spring of 2019 at the Hulbert Township Cemetery.
