Linda Kay Taylor Walker

Linda Kay Taylor Walker, age 69 of Newberry passed away at her residence October 29, 2018 under the care of North Woods Hospice, very close friends and family.

Born May 25, 1949, in Newberry, Linda was the daughter of Julian and Harriette Taylor. She attended the Mark's and Smather's schools and graduated from Newberry High School in 1967.

Longtime employee of the Newberry Schools, Linda drove bus and also greeted many people who attended athletic events, inside and out. She was also active in 4- H, the Luce County Fair, played softball for the J T Dancers and bowled.

She, along with other family members, enjoyed dressing up for floats, Halloween and sometimes just dressing up in funny costumes just for laughs.

A chicken entrepreneur, Linda raised the chickens, cared and fed for them and sold the eggs, sometimes even delivering them to her good friends. She loved her chickens.

Most notable about Linda was that she allowed her son Dennis a free spirit card and in letting him experience whatever he desired no matter the cost to her. She worked numerous jobs just so he could chase his dreams and often went without for herself.

As Dennis is in the Air Force, Linda became more active with veterans, in that, she organized the soliciting, gathering and mailing Christmas packages to servicemen and women. She did not know who these soldiers were, just that she felt it necessary for these people to know that someone was thinking of them during the holidays. Linda gathered and Lil and Mike Clark did the packing and off they went all over the country.

When power outages occurred, Linda would make cookies and pies for the linemen and leave at the office for them.

Survivers include her sons Dennis and Elliott from Anchorage, Alaska, Mother Harriette Taylor of Newberry. Siblings: Robert (Jan) Taylor, Jean (Jim) Foley, Amy (Jeff) Wheeler all of Newberry. Carolyn (Ron) Ford of Weeki Wachi, Florida. Kathy (John) Smith, Jan (Rich) Jacobson of Traverse City, Michigan and several nieces and nephews.

Per request, cremation has been accorded and services for Linda with be held next summer on June 15th with a gathering for relatives and friends in Lakefield.

Memorials can be directed to the Luce County Veterans Office .
