Stressed-out rats drink more booze. A study found that rodents exposed to stress had weakened dopamine responses when drinking alcohol and therefore voluntarily drank more to better feel the effects. Researchers hope this brain chemistry study can lead to helping PTSD sufferers who self-medicate find a way to normalize the brain’s reward system without drinking.
