Gilbert Hyndman

Gilbert E. Hyndman, 85, of Curtis died Monday morning, October 1, 2018 at his residence under the care of his family and North Woods Hospice.

Born April 28, 1933 in Minneapolis, MN, son of the late Burton and Hulda (Grapentin) Hyndman, he served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and later in the Naval Reserves. He was honorably discharged October 3, 1959, attaining the rank of Engineman Petty Officer Third Class.

While residing in Clarkston he was employed with Consumers Energy for more than 47 years until his retirement. During this time he was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Ortonville.

Following retirement in 1998, he and his wife, Mona, moved to Curtis, where he had been a resident since. His hobbies included mechanics projects and listening to classical and big band music.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Harold and James, and sisters, Katherine Schaaf and Helen Janis.

Survivors include his loving wife, the former Mona Ann Johnston of Curtis, whom he married August 24, 1954 in Lawrenceburg, IN; children, Angelia Kerr of Holly, Mark of Sault Ste. Marie and Patricia (Richard) Wayne of Clarkston; and seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Per request, cremation services have been accorded with no public services scheduled.
