Engadine Eagles Take Decisive Victory over North Dickenson

by Stephen King

The Engadine Eagles faced the North Dickinson Nordics last Friday night in Engadine’s home opener. owever

The Nordics started moving the ball well with sophomore QB Brennan Donaldson leading the charge. Brendan Steinbrecher was able to break out and move the ball to mid-field.

Just as it looked as if the Nordics were heading for the Eagle end zone, there was a bad snap and a loose ball. In the ensuing chaos Eagle Jonah Miller had the presence of mind to pick up the ball, rather than just pounce on it, and with nobody between him and the goal line, raced 72 yards for the TD. Andrew Legault then kicked the extra point to put the Eagles up 7— 0.

On the next Nordic series, the Eagle defense stiffened up to force a Nordic punt. Engadine took over on its own 39. On the first play, Eagle QB Andrew Blanchard found a wide-open Miller, who again headed for the end zone and again scored. The Eagles were unable to convert, but were now up 13—0.

The Eagles forced another Nordic three and out and North Dickinson punted. Andrew Blanchard caught the punt and ran all the way for Engadine’s third touchdown. Again, the Eagles could not convert, but with 3:40 left in the first, they were up 19—0.

From here on out it was all Eagles. At the half the score was 34—0. Then, just into the third, the Eagles scored again and the running clock started. The rest of the game went quickly, with the Eagles using most of their support players. They were able to score one more time, making the final tally 55—0.

Engadine’s Jonah Miller had a career night, scoring four TDs. He ran for 196 yards with three carries.

“Everything just felt right tonight,” Miller said. “I have a really good team. Tonight, they made my job much easier. I really have to thank those guys on the line for the job they did tonight. I’m happy we could get this win in front of our fans. It means so much when we’re out there playing and we can hear them cheering us on.”
