Lloyd G. Osterhout

Longtime Curtis resident Lloyd G. Osterhout, 94, died Tuesday morning, September 4, 2018 at Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in Manistique. He was born March 14, 1924 in Brimley, son of the late George and Hazel (Gage) Osterhout.

On January 14, 1943 he was inducted in the United States Army, serving during World War II until his honorable discharge January 13, 1946, attaining the rank of Private First Class. On April 16, 1948 he married the former Violet R. Brown, and the couple made Curtis their home.

He was a self-employed woodsman for several years. Following his retirement he enlisted in the United States Merchant Marines, sailing the Great Lakes on the vessel H. Lee White until his discharge April 27, 1972.

His hobbies included tinkering on machinery.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Violet, March 16, 2012; son, David; grandson, Rich Bradley; and siblings, Clare and Frank.

Survivors include his children, Laura Bradley of Lake City, Richard of Curtis, Harold (Sandy) of Newberry, Ron (Ellie) of Gould City and Brenda Morrison of Kingsford; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; sister, Margie (William) Stanfell of Ypsilanti; and several nieces and nephews.

Per request, cremation services were accorded with no public services scheduled. Interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Curtis.
