Whitetails Banquet Returns for 29th Year September 29

The Tahquamenon Sportsmen’s Club Whitetails Committee has been busy organizing this year’s Whitetails Banquet. The purpose of the banquet is to raise funds for feeding whitetail deer in the winter and to provide scholarships for college students majoring in an outdoor field.

This is the 29th annual banquet that was originally founded by Bob Vernon, who recently passed away. As in the past, there will be more than 20 firearms raffled off, a dinner presented by Timber Charlie’s and a cash bar served by the American Legion. The banquet will be held at the Newberry American Legion Saturday, September 29 starting with a social hour at 6:00 p.m.

New this year was an “early bird” option for tickets. Purchasers of Whitetails tickets from last year were offered a chance to purchase their tickets early and be entered into an early bird drawing for two rifles. The drawing will take place as the first order of business at the banquet.

Members of the Whitetail Committee will be circulating in the community this week looking for sponsors and selling tickets. Questions can be directed to Jay Maki at (906) 420-3237 or Kris Derusha at (906) 450- 2240.
