Sally Ann Lemke

Sally Ann Lemke, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of Newberry, passed away Friday, March 2 at McLaren Hospital in Mt. Pleasant.

She was born May 22, 1930 in Newberry to parents Arthur and Ella Green. She graduated from Newberry High School in the class of 1948. She married her high school sweetheart, Elmer “Jack” Lemke, August 25, 1950.

She was employed at the Department of Natural Resources in Newberry for many years as a stenographer, from which she retired in 1985. She and her husband were avid travelers, going to all 50 states and Europe. Their travels included attending most of their grandchildren’s soccer, volleyball and hockey games.

She was known by her family for her knitted dishcloths, famous banana bread and peanut butter pie.

Survivors include her sons, Stephen (Pam) Lemke of Beavercreek, OH and David (Laura) Lemke of Grand Blanc; son-in-law, Kenneth Summersett of Grand Blanc; daughter, Sandra (Gary) Jones of Mt. Pleasant; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and sister, Mary-Lou Botticelli.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer “Jack” Lemke; daughter, Susan Summersett; parents, Arthur and Ella (French) Green; sister, Annette Lytle; and brothers, Matthew and William Green.

Visitation will take place at Beaulieu Funeral Home Friday, March 9 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the Newberry United Methodist Church on Saturday. Memorial services will be held at the church Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Tim Callow officiating. Internment will take place later in the Forest Home cemetery.
