Robert L. Cameron

Lifelong Newberry resident, Robert L. Cameron, 90, died Saturday evening, February 3, 2018 at his residence.

Born April 10, 1927 in Newberry, son of the late Loren and Melvina (Perry) Cameron, he attended Tahquamenon Area Schools until his enlistment in the United States Navy on April 24, 1944. A veteran of World War II, he was honorably discharged June 28, 1946, attaining the rank of Painter Third Class.

He was employed at the former Newberry Regional Mental Health Center for 24 years until his retirement in June of 1984.

A member of the First Presbyterian Church, he also was a member of the VFW and American Legion, both in Newberry. He enjoyed spending time at the farm north of Newberry, hunting and visiting his favorite restaurants and stores.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Melba; daughter, Karen; and brother, Frank.

Survivors include his son, Robert of Newberry; sister, Mary Ward of Durand; and five nephews.

Per his request, cremation services were accorded. Graveside services with military honors conducted by the United States Naval Honor Guard and American Legion Post #74 will be held in the spring at Forest Home Cemetery .

Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church.
