News from the Tahquamenon Area Library
by Dion Mindykowski, Librarian

This sure has been an active winter! With two closures for snow and ice and another for illness over the last two weeks, we hope you haven’t missed the library too much.

It is Tahquamenon Library policy to follow the school schedule for closings and delays. This allows the custodial and maintenance staff the space needed to clear sidewalks and driveways, and in the worst weather it helps keep library employees safe.

For the illness closure on Monday, January 29, it allowed the custodial staff the opportunity to disinfect the high traffic areas.

Despite the occasional winter closures, the Tahquamenon Area Library is open more hours now than we’ve been in the past. Prior to 2010 the library was open 48 hours per week during the school year and 21 hours per week during the summer. Now we’re open 55.5 hours per week year-round. There are many more opportunities to visit the library even when snow occasionally gets in the way.

Items due on the day that we’re closed will be due on the next open day, so there’s no need to drive out on slippery roads in order to avoid a late fee.
