Newberry Man Arrested on Multiple Counts

Sigurd Utych Sigurd Utych On February 1, Marquette Police arrested 19- year-old Marquette resident Sigurd John Utych on warrants authorized out of the Marquette County Prosecutor’s office for six counts of Larceny from a Motor Vehicle, two counts of Breaking and Entering of a Building with Intent, one count of Larceny in a Building and one count of Safe-Breaking.

The arrest is the result of joint investigation by the Marquette Police Department and Michigan State Police, Newberry Post.

The charges stem from incidents that occurred in 2016 and 2017, which included the theft of numerous LED lights and several radios being stolen from City of Marquette Public Works vehicles and two breaking and entering cases involving a local Marquette business.

Unable to post his $395,000 bond, Utych, a former Newberry resident, was lodged at the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department.
