News from the Tahquamenon Area Library
by Dion Mindykowski, Librarian

“Oxen Thieves! One of your oxen is missing. Lose 500 steps.”

“An early blizzard has struck. Lose 1,000 steps while you are snowed in.”

These are just two of the fates you might encounter as part of the Tahquamenon Area Library Oregon Trail Steps challenge, which is in full swing and continues into March.

Although the challenge has already started, it’s not too late to gather your team of four and see how long it takes you to traverse the entire trail. Fate cards at landmarks along the way could help or hinder your journey, and special rewards including free DVD rentals and $1 off late fees are found at other stops along the way.

At the end of the trail you’ll receive bragging rights and a Tahquamenon Area Friends of the Library water bottle.

This program is free and open to adults and high school students. A limited supply of free pedometers is available, or you can use your own. Stop by the circulation desk today to register your team and pick up your steps log.
