Yoopers Ride Free, Pictured Rocks Day a Huge Success

The third annual Yoopers Ride Free and second annual Pictured Rocks Day was a huge success. Pictured Rocks Cruises of Munising estimated around 350 more participants this year than last, for a total of 2,026 Yoopers taking the cruise. The cruises offered nineteen special trips throughout the day and accommodated people from all of the Upper Peninsula’s 15 counties and 88 communities.

While waiting for their cruise departure time, the Alger County Chamber of Commerce held their second Pictured Rocks Day in Bayshore Park. Seventy-three vendors and many bands provided excellent entertainment in the park, and many area residents participated in the festivities.

“We were extremely happy with the turnout and estimate that we had over 6,000 attendees,” approximated Kathy Reynolds, director of the Alger County Chamber.

Plans are already in the works to offer the free cruises next year on Saturday, June 13 and again celebrate Pictured Rocks Day with activities in the park.
